No erection

It’s annoying when you can’t get or keep an erection. Don’t have sex until your penis is fully erect.

Why can’t you get an erection?

  • You don’t feel like having sex.
  • You’re tired or distracted, your mind is not on sex.
  • You’ve drunk too much alcohol or taken drugs.
  • You’re unsure of yourself and during sex you think, ‘I hope I get an erection.’
  • You don’t like the way your penis is being touched.

Is there something physically wrong?

There is almost never anything physically wrong. Do you wake up in the morning with an erection? Is it no problem when you masturbate? Then there’s nothing physically wrong.

How do you get an erection?

You get an erection when you think about sex or when you like the way you’re being touched. Blood flows to your penis, filling up its spongy tissues. The penis becomes erect and stands up. Your penis is hardest directly before orgasm.

Tips to get an erection

  • Don’t think too much, just focus on how good the touching feels.
  • Make sure you’re well rested.
  • Avoid alcohol or drugs.
  • Indicate what you do and don’t like.
  • Do what excites and pleases you. Or fantasize about exciting things when making love.
  • If nothing helps, do something else. Try again another time.
  • Women often need more time than men to get fully aroused, and to get wet, so it really doesn’t matter if it takes a bit longer.
  • Don’t take any medicine or pills that haven’t been prescribed by a doctor, as these can be dangerous.

Women and girls, but sometimes boys and men too, can find it difficult to reach orgasm. It takes too long or doesn’t happen at all.

Why doesn’t it happen?

  • You’re not turned on or you’re tense.
  • You’re somewhere else with your thoughts.
  • You don’t trust your partner completely, or your relationship is not going well.
  • You’re too focused on wanting to have an orgasm.
  • You think it’s not going to happen anyway.
  • You’re afraid you’re going to pull a funny face or make a strange noise.
  • You’re not being touched in the right way.
  • You’re drunk or high.
